Miserere Mei, Deus (ALLEGRI)
"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy unfailing love. According to the multitude of Thy mercies do away mine offences. Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness: and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my faults: and my sin is ever before me. Against Thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that Thou mightest be justified in Thy saying, and clear when Thou art judged..." -Psalm 51
* This piece will be performed by the Cathedral Choir for Ash Wednesday + Good Friday. On the FULL CHOIR sections with 5-parts, each voice part will be split evenly as possible with 3 to 4 voices per part. On the SOLO CHOIR sections with 4-parts that will be done by four solo voices.
* This piece is written in G minor but often goes out of tune and falls flat within that key. The tuning holds much better either down or up a half step however going down to the Key Gb minor tends to be a pinch too low for the basses/altos not necessarily that they can't sing those notes but it takes the richness and power out of the low notes which need to be the foundation of the choral sound. The Key Ab minor (up 1 half step) seems to be the perfect compromise with the one caveat that the soprano soloist from the quartet group needs to be able to sing a high C#
